1st journal entry - yay!

So today when I submitted my entry for the EQD Artist Training Grounds III I decided to put a fancy smiley in the description. This one to be exact:
- awesome smiley ->   /)^3^(\

Like an hour later a friend of mine tells me I forgot a \. I was pretty sure I didn't but I checked anyway - turns out deviantart filters backslashes. What to do, what to do... AHA escape it. So I typed /)^3^(\\ into the description field and hit the "preview" button to see if it works.
Tadaaa 2 backslashes! Wait what?! Come on deviantart -.-

After some playing around I decided to go with the two \\ anyway (yes in the editor i just had to type 3 backslashes). So I check to see how stupid it looks but to my surprise it doesn't look stupid at all because there's actually only ONE backslash. Turns out that the backslashes need to be escaped after all, but not in the preview. But hey if the preview would be an actual preview of what you're about to post it would be useful - how boring would that be? I mean seriously what's the point in a preview if it shows something different than the actual result?

EDIT: turns out the journal editor does not need escaping backslashes
